Introduction to Liners & Resins
In the pipe renovation industry, resins and liners are critical components used with UV curing equipment to repair and reinforce aging or damaged pipelines. This innovative technology ensures efficient, durable, and environmentally friendly solutions for a variety of applications, from residential to industrial settings.
Types of Liners
There are various types of liners designed for different curing methods, such as UV or all cure methods. Felt liners are available in two options: one for UV curing, suitable for up to 12”/300mm, and another for all cure methods, which can accommodate sizes up to 110”/2750mm.
These liners offer multiple options to fit a range of job requirements. Invertible fiberglass and hybrid liners provide better light penetration and also offer several options to meet different needs. GFRP liners, which start at 6” and up, are pulled into place using a winch rather than an air compressor. Air is then used to inflate the liner once it is properly positioned.
CalTube Liner
Max CalTube – Stitched is a flexible PE fabric that is PVC coated with a triple linear stitch and overlapped taped seam. For use in Open-End liner (Blindshot) and Pull-in-Place applications to keep the liner tightly pressed against the host pipe during the curing process.
FLEX 4D
FLEX 4D is a non-woven, needle punched PE felt liner with a unique elastic and impermeable PU coating. This specially designed stitched skived seam and extruded taped joint, make it capable of transitioning up to four diameters (4D) while maintaining finished thickness and negotiating bends up to 90°.
FLEXLINER
FlexLiner is a non-woven, needle-punched polyester fiber felt with a PVC coating. Tube forming and seam bonding are achieved through a specially designed stitched skived seam and extruded taped joint and/or an overlocking chain stitched sewn process.
GHOSTLINER
Tube forming and seam bonding are achieved by an overlocking chain stitched seam with an extruded taped joint – creating a superior, high-performance, impermeable liner designed for sweeping bends up to 45° and very minimal stretch.
LINERTUBE
LinerTube is a non-woven, needle-punched polyester fiber felt offered with either PU or PVC coating. Tube forming and seam bonding are achieved through a specially designed thermal welding and/or an overlocking chain stitched sewn process.
SCRIM LINER
SCRIM Liner is a non-woven, needle-punched polyester fiber felt offered with either PU or PVC coating. There is a 100% continuous polyester reinforcement filament (SCRIM) integrated into the fabric to limit longitudinal stretch during installation.
WOVO LINER
WovoLiner is an ultra-flexible liner uniquely bonded to a seamless impermeable PU coating. The circular-knitted construction of polyester and elastomeric yarns make it ideal for lining around multiple bends up to 90°.
WOVOGLASS
An ultra-flexible liner, uniquely bonded to a seamless impermeable polyurethane coating which is 3x stronger than traditional liners. The circular-knitted construction of polyester and extensible fiberglass reinforcement makes it ideal for transitioning several pipe diameters and lining around multiple bends up to 90°.
WOVOX
WovoX (a WovoLiner® Product) is an ultra-flexible, extensible liner uniquely bonded to a seamless impermeable PU coating. The circular-knitted construction of polyester and elastomeric yarns make it ideal for transitioning several diameters and lining around multiple bends up to 90°.
Types of Resins
There is a variety of UV LED resins compatible with Sewertronics equipment. Compatibility of UV LED resins with Sewertronics equipment resides in the existence of initiators that react in the presence of our UV radiation wavelength of 400 nm. The liner and resin selected also needs to be compatible with one another along with the system you are using.
Different types of UV LED resins exist currently in the market, each of which presents certain particularities regarding curing speeds, bonding to the pipe, chemical behaviour and others.
The most common resins used with felt liners are VE (Vynil Ester) and derivatives such as MA (methacrylate) always styrene-free. An unsaturated polyester resin with styrene (UP) is typically used for GRP liners.
UV Curing Technology
UV curing technology plays a vital role in the pipe renovation process.
The key benefits include:
Speed: UV curing significantly reduces curing times compared to traditional methods, allowing for faster project completion and minimal disruption.
Efficiency: The UV light initiates an exothermic reaction that cures the epoxy resin evenly and thoroughly, ensuring a high-quality, durable repair.
Safety: UV curing produces less heat and no harmful emissions, making it a safer option for both workers and the environment.
Precision: The controlled application of UV light allows for precise curing, ensuring optimal performance of the resin and liner.
Epoxy resins and liners, combined with UV curing technology, provide a powerful solution for the pipe renovation industry. These materials and methods ensure efficient, durable, and eco-friendly repairs, extending the lifespan of pipelines and enhancing their performance. Whether dealing with residential plumbing or large-scale industrial pipelines, the right combination of epoxy resin and liner can meet the specific demands of any project.
